Special Investigations Division

The Special Investigations Division of the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office is tasked with providing criminal investigation and litigation support for criminal and civil prosecution matters. There are currently 7 Special Investigators in the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office, with more than 100 years of law enforcement experience. The investigators assigned to the Special Investigations Division conduct sophisticated criminal investigations which assist the State’s Attorney in performance with their duties. This includes matters where local law enforcement agencies request assistance or matters that the State’s Attorney’s investigators are uniquely qualified to investigate. These matters often include political corruption investigations and elections complaints, complex financial crimes, and task force cases.

Furthermore, the investigators assigned to this Division coordinate and manage evidence intake, subpoena service, witness transportation and other litigation support activities. These investigators utilize their decades of law enforcement experience as a critical resource for prosecutors to understand essential elements of criminal prosecution cases and educate attorneys new and old on police investigative tactics, criminal procedure, and case composition. Moreover, they create demonstrative exhibits for prosecutors to use in court and ensure the integrity of evidence once it is received from justice partners.

Finally, the Special Investigations Division conducts critical threat assessments for the State’s Attorney’s Office and advises senior office leadership on strategic response to both insider and outsider misconduct.
